Why GA4 clicks undercount your ChatGPT visibility
Zero-click behavior is standard: SparkToro and Similarweb clickstream data published June 8, 2026 showed 68.01% of Google searches ended without a click from January to April 2026. Pew Research found in July 2025 (using March 2025 data) that Google users clicked a traditional result on 8% of visits with an AI summary versus 15% without one, and summary links got a click on 1% of visits.

Questions
How does ChatGPT traffic show up in Google Analytics 4?
According to OpenAI's publisher FAQ, outbound links from ChatGPT search carry the utm_source=chatgpt.com query parameter.
Why is my ChatGPT referral traffic so low compared to Google?
Across 115,254 sites in September 2026, Ahrefs found that all AI assistants combined sent 0.43% of website traffic, compared to 26.82% from traditional search engines.
Does blocking GPTBot stop ChatGPT from sending traffic to my website?
No, blocking GPTBot only tells OpenAI not to use your content for training its foundation models. ChatGPT's search features rely on a separate crawler called OAI-SearchBot, so as long as you allow OAI-SearchBot in your robots.txt and firewall, your pages can still appear and earn clicks in ChatGPT search.
How can I see if ChatGPT mentions my site when nobody clicks?
To check whether ChatGPT's search finds or cites your pages, you can use FoundByChat (free to start, no credit card) to ask ChatGPT your customers' questions every 2 hours.
